A Journey with Leukemia and Bone Marrow Transplant

On a lovely early June evening in 2005, I received a phone call from the Cleveland Clinic Nurse on Call.  It would forever change my life.  She indicated that my labwork done earlier that day showed some concerning results.  The nurse went on to say that she had checked with the Physician on Call who wanted me to know that if I started to experience any type of bleeding, I should promptly go to the Emergency Room.  Otherwise I should be in touch first thing the next morning with my Primary Care Physician.  I was certain they had confused my results with that of another patient.  The next morning I reported early to my desk at Cleveland Clinic where at the time I was Coordinator for a large Institute physician Chairman and was doubling to fill in as Assistant Department Administrator.  Before I had a chance to contact my PCP, she was on the phone to me and indicated that I needed to be admitted immediately to Cleveland Clinic Hospital for transfusions and evaluation.  To be continued.....
